California Dreamin'

It really happened! Carrie and I made our way through the desert to San Diego to enjoy the California sun. We arrived at our motel (like a hotel just crappier) Monday night thanks in large part to the help of Gert our Garmin guidance counselor. The room wasn't quite what we had imagined from the 4 star rating it was given online but the price was right. Tell me---would you be a bit freaked out if you found this list of safety tips posted inside?

For those without eagle eyes the sign reads:

Safety Tips

1. Do NOT answer your door without verifying who it is. If a person claims to be an employee, call the Front Desk and ask if one of their staff has been sent to your room, and for what purpose.
2. Keep the door securely closed when you are in your room and use all of the locking devices provided.
3. Lock windows, sliding glass doors, and connecting room doors.
4. Do not display large amount of cash or expensive jewelry in public.
5. Do not invite strangers to your room.
6. Use the Hotel Entrance when returning to your room late at night. Be observant. Look around the parking lot before exiting the car.
7. Do not leave valuables in vehicles.
8. Be careful about displaying your guest room key in public. Don’t leave it on tables, at the pool, or any other place where it can be easily stolen.
9. Place all valuables in the Hotel’s safe deposit box located at the Front Desk.
10. Immediately report any suspicious activity to the management.

We also found it a bit disturbing that there was about an inch of daylight that came through the top and bottom of the door (remember this is open to the outside and any bug or critter that wanted could come join us in the room).

Is it any wonder that we spent our time away from the hotel room? We spent time basking in the sun at the beach, watching the surfers, enjoying the first 9 innings of the Padres/Rockies 22 inning duel, and just basically taking life easy. It was gorgeous and we really must do it again next year.

You can read Ginger's account of the trip HERE.

How fun! Those rules are very disturbing. Glad you guys had a fun trip. But of course it would have been more fun with me, right, right?

Of course it would have been more fun with you there and we wouldn't have had to worry for our safety because you are a Kung Fu Master!

I'm glad you had time to relax and spend time with Carrie. And I'm especially glad you figured out what was wrong with your phone and got it fixed in a timely fashion! Maybe Bridget and I will both go next year.

Wow! That's all I can say about the motel guidelines. Wow! Oh, and Eeek! I can also say that. How wonderful to have time with your sister.

Hey, what's the graph on your blog with a goal and
and your progress? I'm so curious.

I'm eager to see Stephen this summer. You have almost finished the thing I am both dreading and excited about. How was it?

Kind of like our house rules, but different.

1. Do not answer the door without verifying who it is. Verifying means checking to see if you know them. Do NOT tell them mommy is in the bathroom.

2. Keep the door securely closed. Heating oil costs a fortune and I'm tired of being the local bug Motel. (like hotel, just crappier).

3. Lock windows, sliding glass doors, and connecting room doors and don't come out till I tell you to!

4. On the off chance that you might have cash, don't show it to anyone. It needs to last the rest of the month.

5. Do not invite strangers to your room.

6. Use the Garage Entrance when returning to your room late at night. Be observant. Look around the driveway to make sure there are no deer or other critters trying to sneak into the garage. Be sure and shut the garage door behind you so that no other animals carry off and rip open the garbage bags that are sitting there waiting to be taken to the "transfer station". (like a dump, but nicer).

7. Do not leave valuables in vehicles. Valuables? Never mind.

8. Be careful about going to the bathroom in public. Don’t go out by the road or near the neighbor's property line, or any other place where you can be easily seen.

9. Place all loose change in the money jar so we can buy groceries during the last week of the month.

10. Do not report any suspicious activity to the management. Work it out between yourselves. Lock yourselves in the room if you have to. There will be no Playstation until it's worked out.
